Explanation of Fit Testing
It is essential that all respiratory products be checked for proper size and fit annually to ensure safety measures are maintained. We come into your station, department, or company and fit test all your masks. Using the Portacount we are able to test all single use respirators, reusable half masks, gas masks, full face respirators, and SCBA and PAPR face masks on all manufacturers’ models. The Portacount uses a
quantitative fit testing method to eliminate the guesswork found with other testing methods. It makes a direct measurement of respirator fit factors. There are no error-inducing assumptions made to calculate “equivalent” fit factors. The measurement is made while the person simultaneously performs dynamic moving and breathing exercises designed to stress the respirator seal in ways that simulate anticipated workplace activity. We supply you with a computer printout of all completed tests for your records.
